Questions To Ask Before Marrying

A New York Times article lists fifteen questions couples should ask before marrying Ruby Miller and her fiance, Tom Truby, have questions 1 to 14 almost covered. It's question 15 that has the Maine schoolteacher stumped: Is their relationship strong enough to withstand challenges? Challenges like...Ruby's twin sister, Stella. The professional muse, flirt and face reader thinks Ruby is playing it safe. And that the future Mrs. Ruby Truby will die of boredom before her first anniversary or her thirtieth birthday, whichever comes first. Challenges like...sexy maverick teacher Nick McDermott, Ruby's secret longtime crush, who confesses his feelings for her at her own engagement party. But before Ruby can plan the wedding that may never be, Stella announces she's pregnant by a one-night stand whose name might be Jake (or James? Maybe Jason?) and who lives somewhere under the glittering lights of Las Vegas. Ruby and Stella hit the road to find him--with a lot more than fifteen questions. And after three thousand miles, a stowaway relative and hitchhiking teen lovebirds bound for an Elvis wedding chapel, the Miller sisters might get some answers.

Surprisingly poignant, fun read

A surprisingly endearing and moving read, I loved 'Questions to Ask Before Marrying.' I expected a light story -- and I did get one -- but I actually stumbled across something with a lot of heart, too. Ruby Miller is about to marry Tom Truby, a dependable and all-around good guy with whom she's living and planning a future. Her twin sister Stella is less than pleased with this match, believing that Ruby is simply settling for Tom because he's loyal -- and nothing like their father, who abandoned the family when the girls were young. Add in the sudden confession of love by Ruby's good friend and fellow teacher Nick and you have a real quandry -- should Ruby move forward with Tom as planned, or is Nick -- dangerous, handsome, unpredictable -- really what she's been searching for? These are definitely questions to ask before marrying. I loved the storyline between the sisters most -- though incredibly different, Stella and Ruby are unequivocally devoted to one another through everything. A separate storyline requiring the Miller twins, former child stars, to journey to Las Vegas is as hilarious as it is endearing. And the ending was perfect! Definitely pick up this one if you're a "chick lit" fan!

From S. Krishna's Books

Questions To Ask Before Marrying is a light, fun read that is easy to finish in one sitting. It's one of those books that will take your mind off of whatever is troubling you; its enthusiastic, quirky tone will leave you in a good mood. I enjoyed reading about Ruby and the struggles she went through in order to determine who she wanted to be with: Tom or Nick. While I didn't agree with some of her choices, I thought the character was well-written and very easy to relate to. I had a little more trouble with Stella. Her insistence that Ruby isn't in love with Tom was frustrating, especially since it didn't seem like Stella cared what Ruby had to say on the matter. Her personal journey was a little more difficult to relate to, though I had sympathy for her. The novel is very short, but deals with a lot of different issues on opposite ends of the spectrum, so it gave me the sense I was being jostled around a bit. Time also does not pass evenly; sometimes days will go by from chapter to chapter. It takes a bit of adjusting and as a result, the book does not flow smoothly. Questions To Ask Before Marrying is a fun and light read that most chick lit lovers will probably enjoy.

not as good as her other books

I love the author at this point I have read all her book. I like this one less then all the others.

Great chick-lit!

A great chick-lit book! Twin sisters, Ruby and Stella, drive to Las Vegas in search of the father of Stella's baby - and to give Ruby time to decide once and for all if she's marrying the right guy! Some of it was fairly predictable, but I honestly was thrilled with the way it ended. All the way through, the characters are wonderful - not just the main characters, but the ones that Stella and Ruby meet along the way. The sisters bond, grow up a bit, and learn a lot about themselves.

Excellent chick lit

Maine schoolteacher Ruby Miller evaluates her relationship with her fiancé Tom Truby using a New York Times Article's fifteen questions as a gauge. The first fourteen are a resounding affirmation that she and Tom belong together. Question fifteen asks: "Is their relationship strong enough to withstand challenges? Ruby truthfully is unsure as she doubts Tom has ever met anyone like her twin sister hurricane Stella, the Manhattan muse. While Ruby struggles with that last question Stella informs her that her future brother-in-law is wrong for Ruby who will be bored to death within one year of blissful matrimony. She also says she is pregnant with a hunk whose name begins with Ja, but not exactly sure. Stella asks Ruby to come with her to Nevada so that she can find the dad of her unborn who she says mentioned Vegas and at the same her sister can find her loving groove. Ruby knows she has issues as she dreams of schoolteacher Nick McDermott instead of Tom terrific so she agrees. QUESTIONS TO ASK BEFORE MARRYING is what chick lit is all about when the characters and their scenarios are excellent. The twins are a delight as they go cross country seeking answers and finding more questions. Witty and amusing, the strong story line deals with complex personal issues involving families such as rejections, desertions, and especially what is true love and is that enough to cement a permanent relationship. Readers will ask two questions afterward of Melissa Senate: what next and when? Harriet Klausner
