Taoist Byron Katie

I read a lot of Taoist and Buddhist books plus Krishnamurti. Byron Katie at first glance seems like another pop psychologist but these quotations are profound. They are not reassuring at all. They call for drastic action to clean up your story about the world, your relationships and especially the relationship you have with yourself. She says we don't know reality or who we are. We relate to ourselves and the world around us through the stories that we weave about ourselves and that is the only way we know. She asks us to drop the stories so we can finally see the world as it is. Not an easy thing to do when you've spent a whole lifetime weaving stories about you, your family, how the world is. We are very attached to our stories. They have become who we think we are. Byron Katie's Work is all about the unraveling of your autobiography through her questioning technique. She focuses on NOW. Now is the only place where stories are not woven, there is only what is. For me, I don't want to let go of my own personal story, just yet but at least I am becoming more aware of just how much I am writing the world into existence.

Amazing...

This may be one of the most profound books I've read. If Katie's approach to life resonates with you ("The Work"), this book will have a special place on your bookshelf. This book isn't about "information". If you need "information", look elsewhere. This isn't snackfood. It's not about a quick-fix to problems in your life. (Go see your psychologist.) It's about seeing life in a whole new life-altering perspective. The book takes you through Katie's laser-focused process of systematically destroying everything you thought you knew about life and simplifying it down to it's beautiful core. The book works its way around a number of topics, but the theme always comes back to "The Work", a simple set of questions that allows you to really see what is going on around you. It's about how to wade through life without the weight that is currently on your shoulders. She takes you through an amazing journey that will show you that even in the worst of circumstances that the only villain is your own thoughts. I've read all of Katie's work. I've met Katie in person. I love that this stuff isn't "pie-in-the-sky" pink-crystals-and-new-age-music stuff. It's real. It's very specific. It has changed real people's lives. And if you let it flood your mind, it will change you forever in a positive way. To be specific, this guide is a compilation of many bits from her other books. However, because they are in small bites, they really strike you deep in your heart. I absolutely loved this book and plan to re-read it regularly.

lessons on being happy

Katie always makes it simple and easy she has a way of telling you to cleanup your own yard and leave your friends and neighbors alone in other words mind your own business you will have plenty to do there. She has lived the life and is one of the most enlightened people on this planet We are very blessed to have her. Her books are all great but this one is my favorite. Love Joan

Another Gem from Katie

I am a huge fan of all her work, and The Work. I even have a copy of two of her books that are hard to find because they are no longer in print. I have most of her CD's and DVD's, and many more hours of old cleanses on tape and CD, along with a lot of her old work on mp3. Any yet there are many quotes in the book that were new to me. I just love her musings about life, and she covers so many subjects in this little gem.

Comforting

Byron Katie's wisdom and words are wonderfully comforting. I highly recommend her newest book. If you are new to her, I'd recommend her first book "Loving What Is".
