Quantum Pip: The Pharaoh's Hound

Pip has been a pirate ship's scruffy terrier, a wartime runaway, and a very small dog in a very large amount of trouble. But nothing has prepared her for waking up in Ancient Egypt inside the body of Mutemwia: a tall, golden, blue-and-gold-collared royal hound who appears to be important, respected, and - most alarming of all - expected to behave with dignity.

Separated once again from Sally, Jane, Avery and the strange machines that might be able to bring her home, Pip finds herself in a sun-baked world of palace courtyards, crowded markets, suspicious cats, royal processions and grain stores where every basket, seal and scribbled record may hide a secret. To everyone around her, she is Mut: beloved hound of the Pharaoh's young son. Inside, however, she is still very much Pip - hungry, confused, brave when absolutely necessary, and deeply opposed to crocodiles, boats, and anything that looks like bathwater with teeth.

When Pip meets Kiya, a frightened girl who speaks without words, the adventure changes. Kiya's sister, Satiah, has disappeared after discovering something dangerous in the royal grain stores. All Kiya has left are clues: drawings in the dust, a bracelet of coloured beads, and the hope that a royal hound might be more than just a symbol of power. Together, girl and dog must follow a trail through the city, where clean-handed men tell lies, records do not match what is stored, and the banks of the Nile hide more than reeds and river mud.

Meanwhile, in the present day, Sally is not giving up. Pip's body lies safe but silent, and every faint reflection from the past brings Sally closer to the impossible truth: something ancient is strengthening the connection between them. A mysterious dark stone staff, once carried in a royal procession, may be the key to reaching Pip - but it is no longer in Egypt. It is locked away in a museum, watched by guards, glass cases, security cameras and the very people Sally's family would rather avoid.

As Pip races to protect Kiya and Satiah from a plot that could harm an entire kingdom, Sally must find a way to turn a fragile signal into a lifeline. Across thousands of years, through bronze bowls, polished stone, museum glass and impossible light, girl and dog are pulled toward one another by courage, loyalty and the stubborn belief that no one gets left behind.
