This is not a story covered up by false bravado; it is a unique and intimate look at what makes taboo tick In addition, it is an account of an unusual brand of parental dysfunction, and Mike's struggle to countermand the effect of strong parental prejudices which would contaminate any possible objectivity, in the course of their attempted guidance of their teenage kids. It is also a window into the soul of a very unique, extremely bright and clever man, who is Bonnie's father in the story; although he apparently struggles with scars left over from his own upbringing, and from his own obsession with bar-room drinking escapades.
