Pure Joy - Review

As someone who has been in the slough of despond for some time, I found R.T. Kendall's book Pure Joy just what I needed. It helped me to see the Lord behind my trials, loving me and using all these things for my good and His glory. Right now, I just want everyone I know to read this book. Thank you for recommending it. A Pure Joy to Read

One thing I always enjoy when reading Dr. R. T. Kendall is that everything he writes has a practical application. He doesn't simply lay out an Ivory Tower theological tome for the consideration of bulbous brained theologians, but his books are chock full of applicable wisdom from an elder statesmen in the kingdom of God. Pure Joy was a pure joy for me to read. Although the book is published by the world's largest charismatic publishing house, Kendall freely writes solid biblical chapters and meets head-on many subjects which may well frighten some of the health and wealth, name it and claim it crowd. He also states that the Charismatic movement is not the revival we've all been praying for; it is the Ishmael to the coming Isaac. Dr. Kendall is a perfect example of the convergence of Word and Spirit. He is an Oxford trained Calvinist theologian who has experienced the miraculous power of the Holy Spirit. Both sides of this convergence marvelously comes out in his books. One thing that always attracts me to Dr. Kendall is his humility. At a time when there are so many big-haired TBNesque peacocks strutting about, it is a breath of fresh air to read good theology from one who is aware of his own feet of clay. All in all Pure Joy is highly recommended. Not only will you understand the purpose of various trials that come your way, but you will know what to do with them when they do come - for your own benefit and for the glory of God.
