This book presents an inter-religious study relating Dionysius the Areopagite as an exemplar of Christian traditions with contemporary Confucian-Christian dialogue. This study focuses on three central themes: the relationship between transcendence and immanence, the unity of divinity and humanity, and the concept of human benevolence or love. These themes are central to contemporary Confucian-Christian dialogue. Through a research into Dionysius's text, the book demonstrates that Dionysius's thought brings many illuminations for both Christianity and Confucianism. Rather than being opposed systems of ideas as often portrayed in Confucian-Christian dialogue, the two traditions actually share many common grounds. Each tradition can learn from the other through the dialogue, provided that certain stereotypes are set aside. The study between Dionysius and Confucian-Christian dialogue thus illustrates the potential for a rich and constructive dialogue between the two traditions.
