Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission--and if he fails, humanity and the earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company. His crewmates dead, his memories fuzzily returning, Ryland realizes that an impossible task now confronts him. Hurtling through space on this tiny ship, it's up to him to puzzle out an impossible scientific mystery--and conquer an extinction-level threat to our species. And with the clock ticking down and the nearest human being light-years away, he's got to do it all alone. Or does he? Hailed by USA Today as "an epic story of redemption, discovery, and cool speculative sci-fi," Project Hail Mary is an irresistible interstellar adventure as only Andy Weir could deliver.
I fall into the crowd of "movie first, then read the book" here, and I am okay with that. It was a fabulous story and I loved the book deeply. I am normally not a huge fan of first person writing, but this book is the exception. The characters are so enjoyable and the book is well organized and emotional.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Project Hail Mary — What an incredible journey!
I just finished Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir, and I can honestly say that I am so happy I decided to read this book. ❤️📖
From the very beginning, I was completely drawn into Ryland Grace’s journey. I loved the way the story unfolded through his eyes—his confusion, his memories slowly returning, his humor, his fear, and his determination to figure out the impossible. The science was fascinating, but somehow it never took away from the heart of the story. Instead, it made the adventure feel even bigger and more real.
And then there was Rocky. 🥹❤️
I absolutely loved Rocky. What begins as an encounter between two beings from completely different worlds becomes one of the most beautiful friendships I have ever read about. Grace and Rocky don’t look alike, don’t speak the same language, don’t breathe the same atmosphere, and don’t even experience their worlds in the same way—and yet they learn to understand, trust, protect, and care for one another.
Their friendship is truly the heart of this book.
What I loved most about Project Hail Mary is that underneath all the space travel, astrophysics, engineering, Astrophage, and the enormous mission to save humanity, this is ultimately a story about friendship, sacrifice, courage, curiosity, and what it means to care about someone other than yourself.
There were moments that made me laugh, moments that had me worried, moments that completely surprised me, and moments that genuinely touched my heart. I became so invested in Grace and Rocky that I didn’t just want the mission to succeed—I wanted them to be okay.
And that ending… ❤️😭
No spoilers, but I couldn’t have imagined a more meaningful way to finish Grace’s journey. When I closed the book, I had that wonderful feeling you get when you realize you didn’t just finish a story—you experienced one.
I’m genuinely a little sad that it’s over.
Project Hail Mary reminded me why reading can be so special. For a while, I got to travel across the stars, solve impossible problems, meet an intelligent being from another world, and witness an extraordinary friendship.
I’m so, so happy I read this book.
Amaze. Amaze. Amaze. 🕷️🎶❤️🚀
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Five stars without hesitation.
I cannot get over this book and this author!

Oh. My. Gosh. I cant. Im a freaking sucker for space operas, but the real heart of this book and Andy Weir's beautiful voice is the HUMOR. The science is so sciency and the humor is so classically funny that its a perfect balance. Im obsessed with Weir's writing style and all of the emotions he made me feel in this book. Rocky rocks, but Grace is such a man's man that i have to choose him as my favorite character. I know your holding off, so just dont. Just buy the book and read it. You wont regret anything. My favorite standalone novel of all time.
Great SciFi even if you're not a fan!!!!

This is a thrill read from start to finish! It is certainly science fiction but not obnoxiously so which enables everyone to read it. Much more of a story about the human condition and the limits one can go to to survive. Also alot about accepting the differences in others and working together to achieve common goals. I guess I liked it because I ordered it twice!
I don’t care for this genre but I loved this book!

Andy Weir is a great storyteller and i found the narrator to be very endearing!
Great plot… execution just okay

Overarching plot? Loved it, super creative. But everything else — problems that arise, emotional moments that should punch, even some basic science — just resolves too fast. As in, within the span of two paragraphs for what should be one of the most emotional moments, or one page for a problem that could (and should!) easily be more technically and emotionally complex. There were also some details — both plot and scientific — that the movie just truly did better, and I don’t think I’ve ever said that before about any other book. Andy Weir is wonderfully creative, but as an author he’s just okay.
so touching!

Amazing story! Surprisingly funny, tension builds nicely, and relationships between characters are very lifelike and really suck you in.
Sci-fi elements are easy enough to understand. It's not super dense and easy enough to make sense of, so this would be a good pick for someone's first venture into the genre (or for someone wanting a less mind-numbingly academic read).
Great read

This book is one of those that makes you forget you're reading. Personality filled dialogs with crisp environment descriptions. Definitely a book to reread again and again.

one of the best Weir books to date. it has the same voice that Weir has cultivated- it's funny, it's brash, and it's got flawed, idiot characters who can laugh or cry at themselves. its delightful- a wonderful way to introduce amnesia into his writing.

You'll love it even if you're not a fan of sci-fi

I'm not a huge fan of sci-fi. If I read sci-fi, it's the funny sort of sci-fi like Hitchhiker's Guide. This book had me rolling on the floor laughing. It's funny, cute, thought provoking, and the very science-y parts are well explained for the average layman to understand. I recommend this book to everyone I know, and so far everyone I know who has read it feels the same way. 10/10 would recommend.
Absolutely incredible
