Applying Human Potential to Life Experience - the Legacy of Esalen

From Preface to 3rd Edition: "'Profound Simplicity' was written in 1979 as an outgrowth of the human potential movement of the late '60s and early '70s. The book reported a convergence among the major approaches to the human condition: psychological, spiritual, physical, and energetic. [This book] describes 7 principles with which these approaches more or less agree. 1 - TRUTH - Joy is enhanced by telling the truth 2 - CHOICE - We choose our own lives 3 - SIMPLICITY - The most profound solutions are simple 4 - LIMITLESSNESS - Human beings have no limits 5 - HOLISM - All things are interrelated 6 - COMPLETION - Joy is enhanced by completing each experience 7 - DIMENSIONS - The basic dimensions of human life are inclusion, control and openness The first part of the book elaborated these principles, and the second part presented them as a basis for a social philosophy. 'Profound Simplicity' was one of the first books to apply the learnings of the human potential movement to 'real life' problems. The Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California during that period was the center of the movement. The work done at Esalen will, I believe, eventually be seen as a watershed in the investigation of the human experience." ***** Contents: * Preface * Prologue * Introduction PRINCIPLES * Truth * Choice * Simplicity * Limitlessness * Holism * Completion * Dimensions APPLICATIONS * Introduction * Principles of Application * Law * Medicine * Politics * Sports * Education * Family * Living * Endarkenment * Epilogue * Next Steps * Notes * Index

The Genius of Will Schutz

We used this book as a college text back when it was first published. Highly recommended not only for the truths brought forth but also for the authenticity expressed by the author--demonstrating everything he was teaching. A most congruent innovator.
