ABSOLUTELY A BEAUTIFUL READ!!!!!

The passion that Cheryl Reavis puts into her characters and each individual moment on every page is mind blowing! Reavis was able to draw me into each word written. I felt hunger when her two main characters were starving, smelled smoke when the town was on fire, and felt the harsh times during a war that killed father, brother, and son. I have read many "acclaimed" authors of historical romance but this is the first time that I have felt this moved. THIS IS A MUST READ FOR FANS OF HISTORICAL ROMANCE!!!!!!!

Make the Movie !!

This is a great story I have read it at least twice a year since it was first published. I have bought two books to replace the original which has been worn out from wear. The Story of John David Howe and Amanda Lee Douglas is a beautiful love story set in a time of great hardship and turmoil in this country. You will find yourself hissing at John's mother, cheering as John and Amanda meet again after great odds and crying when John is wounded. One word to the author: Write a love story for Kate, she deserves a happy ending too!!

THIS IS ONE JOURNEY YOU ARE INCLUDED IN!

You can really feel the frustations and fear that keep these two people on the run.Union Caption John Howe took Amanda Dougles hostage in his desperate escape from the Confederate Prison at Salisbury, North Carolina. In January no less, dang but it was cold.Amanda decided to go along with John Howe in a bid for freedom from her step-father. The man was constantly looking for proof that she was morally ruined. Such cold hatred.Amanda was a very circumspect young lady of little more than seventeen summers and John Howe was an experienced man of twenty four. Both used a bit of sarcasm to counter their growing attraction. Amanda was not about to trust John Howe and he was in no condition to give into his lust.Ah, but when he finally got home from North Carolina to Washington he had to contend with people who did not want to know about the savageness of war. Once again Amanda helps save his sanity.Mama, in her misguided attempts to save John from a poor, scheming Reb gal began to ease the two apart. It took John a while to realize he was trusting the wrong people. You will get a charge out of Mama's secret that she uses against Amanda to convince her to go back to North Carolina. And guess where John finds Amanda?Great story - wonderful characters - great action - definitely hard to put down.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED ? -- Definitely a keeper!

Very Good!

Back Cover description: On The Run...Union Captain John Howe escaped a living hell when he tunneled his way out of a Confederate prison camp, though his ordeal was far from over. Now he was saddled with his own prisoner, the sad, stubborn Amanda Douglas, on a journey that would change their lives forever...Even her previous spartan existence had not prepared Amanda for the dangerous trek she was now making--entirely against her will. But when John gazed at her through his beautiful, haunted eyes, bright with fever, she was lost. Could a privileged Yankee son and a poor, proud Rebel girl keep their love safe from the rest of the world?Great story. There is a nice feel for the times that different social groups inhabited during the Civil War. The journey north away from the Confederate prison had just enough tension to make it believeable. When John gets home, the scene where he collaspes makes you feel that you're there. His love for Amanda also rings true. John's mother is the villian in this story, I just wish his father's character was more developed. This is the first historical by Ms. Reavis that I've read. I like her contemporary stories that deal with the Armed Forces. Now I'll try to get the rest of her other historical books.
