Although Katanga is a major source of natural resources and minerals, its population is still too often forced to flee in the face of violent armed groups, unscrupulous companies, and a standard of living that makes it impossible to get by. In response to this, there have also been notable cases of population returns and the reintegration of former combatants. These intertwined movements raise a number of questions, which this study will attempt to answer by taking into account both economic and social issues.
