One of 101 titles in the St. Joseph Picture Book Series, this book by popular author Rev. Jude Winkler, OFM. Conv. provides children with the story of Pope Francis as both the leader of the Catholic Church, and a very special person who helps guide us closer to Jesus. He was born on December 17, 1936, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and his name was Jorge Mario Bergoglio. As a boy, he loved playing soccer and spending time with his family.

When Jorge grew up, he felt called to serve God and became a priest. He worked hard to help the poor and teach people about God's love. Later, he became a bishop and then a cardinal, which are important roles in the Church.

In 2013, Jorge was chosen to be Pope, the leader of Catholics all over the world. He chose the name Francis after St. Francis of Assisi, who loved helping the poor and caring for God's creation. Pope Francis reminds us to be kind, humble, and take care of others, especially those in need.

Pope Francis also talks a lot about protecting the Earth, which he calls our "common home." He encourages us to live simply, love one another, and follow Jesus's teachings.
