Informative AND fun!

My husband (26) is a big fan of all things surf, especially the music. This book touches on everything the lifestyle had to offer in an enigmatic way. A great gift for anyone who is a fan of the surf hayday!

A Gorgeous and Essential Book!

Pop Surf Culture by Brian Chidester and Domenic Priore is a truly gorgeous book by any measure. The book's visual appeal is beyond great with a seemingly endless parade of rare images. The book's written content is deeply informing and essential. It is better to digest this book in small doses as the writing can be slightly numbing with its hugely dense informational onslaught. But its the kitchen sink nature of this book that is part of its charm. Talk about getting a lot for your money! Personally, I love the passion and commitment these two authors always show in their work. For anyone who actually experienced the culture during the times reflected within these pages you'll know every effort has been made here to be accurate and to acknowledge aspects of the pop/surf realm that most other journalists have regularly missed. If you didn't experience these times and you want an education about them...here's your new testament. I would recommended this book to anyone with even the slightest curiosity about Pop Surf Culture. Its a beautiful thing and a fun ride!

Surf City Here We Come!

I gave this book to my sister as a Christmas gift because she lives in "Surf City" - Huntington Beach, California. But before Christmas I took a look through this fantastic collection of historic photos and stories all about the Surf Culture, and it really brought back memories. Growing up in Southern California in the 1960's, the surf culture was the ultimate cool, even if (like me) you weren't a surfer. This book has captured the mood and the spirit of the Surf Culture in all aspects - the music, the fashion, and the settings. Highly recommend this book to anyone who remembers the fun 60's surfing culture (particularly in Southern California) - or if you wish you had been there. It was a blast!

A Surf Opus for All Generations

I've been devouring this ever since it came into my hands. The book gives the reader an absolute coverage of the past-time's varied aspects; geographically, culturally, emotionally & historically. It's split into concise sections, illustrated beautifully and exhaustingly with incredible photos, ads & posters, and written in a way that at times both takes a more documentarian style of coverage & a very personalized kind of coverage. It spans the history and marvels as it teaches, reading fast despite the vast amount of information it contains. The love of the subject matter from the authors POVs was clear; the devotion to the detailed coverage was evident. Whether you're a long time board dog or just curious about the culture, it's a great read and a worthwhile addition to your collection.

Obscure Surf images and history unearthed!

Who else to publish an eye-opening, history-breaking account of the beginnings of Surf culture than Sixties historian Domenic Priore and his Dumb Angel Gazette partner/publisher Brian Chidester. Meticulously researched and packed full of incredible imagery, this book is a must for everyone from Pop culture history buffs to your average gremmie! Buy a copy for every surfer friend for Christmas so they know their roots.
