Big Fun in a Small Package... Just Like My Son!

My seven-year-old artist loves this book. It's not as limiting as a traditional coloring book, nor as intimidating as a blank page. One-sentence prompts on each page accompany PART of a simple line drawing, black ink on white paper. The child is to complete the picture, following the prompt. (Mine doesn't always bother to read the prompt, which is fine with me.) Some of the pictures are fairly elaborate, like the man talking to a bird with blank speech bubbles to fill in. Others are very basic, like the one with three squiggly lines randomly placed on the page with the prompt of, "What can you make with these doodles?" Still others are blank pages with prompts such as, "Draw a wild hairdo." This is a fun way to stimulate creative thinking, and it's great for in the car, in a restaurant, or in a waiting room.

great for travel - even my 5 year old likes it despite 9+ age rating

We travel a lot & so I'm always looking for travel toys and activities for my kindergartener. Although this is supposedly for 9+ years and older, most the pages can be done by littler ones if you just read them the instructions. It's been great for us on trips. Nice, compact size.

Pocket Doodles for Kids

My 8 year old really likes this book though it's a bit too big for his pocket :( He usually draws when he's bored, (when tv and gaming isn't allowed) this book is nice because it's gives him ideas about what to draw. For ex. The title will say "help these kids build the best sand castle on the beach", there is a black and white drawing of some kids with buckets and shovels and then lots of blank space for your artist to draw the sand castles.
