Playing the Piano: First Steps

This course introduces the student to the piano and uses that instrument to improve the ability to read music. By the end of the course, the student can play "Mary Had a Little Lamb" on the piano. The accompanying Learning Guide provides entertaining musical games and activities. Upon completion, the student has enough music fundamentals and early piano skills to go on to beginning piano books.

The course requires some understanding of musical notes, and use of a metronome is recommended. Learning to Play Music, Heron Books, can provide this information. A person who can read music and who plays piano is needed to do some of the activities with the student throughout the course.

Some steps involve access to a treble clef instrument played and a bass clef instrument played. This could involve a trip to a local music store.
