A Note on Science, Evolution, and Early Human Diets

This book draws from mainstream evolutionary biology and nutritional science. When discussing the evolution of the human diet, it refers to early hominins (well-documented early members of the human lineage - not modern humans). These include species such as Sahelanthropus tchadensis (approximately 6-7 million years ago), and Orrorin tugenensis (around 6 million years ago), which are widely recognized by scientists as direct ancestors or close relatives within the human evolutionary line. In evolutionary biology, it is both normal and scientifically accurate to discuss human ancestry at this timescale.

Scientists are also able to infer the diets of early hominins using multiple established methods, including dental morphology (tooth shape and wear), microscopic tooth-wear analysis, stable isotope analysis preserved in tooth enamel, jaw mechanics and muscle attachment sites, and associated plant and animal remains found at excavation sites. These techniques allow researchers to determine whether a species primarily consumed C3 plants (such as trees and leafy vegetation), C4 plants (grasses and sedges), fruit-heavy or fibrous diets, and relative levels of meat consumption. This methodology is standard in biological anthropology and is taught at the undergraduate university level, it is not speculative or fringe science.

Why Your Body Prefers Plants offers a grounded, science-backed approach to understanding nutrition helping you make informed, realistic choices that support health, energy, and longevity that offers a realistic whole foods diet plan focused on long-term health, not restriction.

This book is about understanding how the human body responds to different foods and choosing patterns of eating that work with your biology.
