I really enjoyed this book. Her characters are easy to relate to and believeable. I found the look into the culture of India very similar to small town America. I even caught myself laughing out loud a few times! The twist at the end made the book a definate winner!
Piece of Cake is delightful fun

I loved Piece of Cake. It's a jaunty, sweet story that will not only bring fun to your heart but treat you to a look at Indian culture that will surprise and delight you. Swati Kaushal's Minal is a heroine you will laugh with, groan with, and ultimately cheer for. And the characters who accompany her on her journey are equally captivating - even her intrusive-but-loving mom. Readers have the bonus of discovering that the culture Minal loves and struggles against is amazingly similar to our life and culture in America. Piece of Cake is very intelligently written with clever humor and great little details including fun Indian references and a few true-to-life words and phrases. It's so much fun to read. Enjoy!

Piece of Cake is such a fun read. Swati Kaushal does a fantastic job making the book, which is set in India, accessible to people of any culture. So many novels of the chick lit genre are indulgent and the characters can come off (dare I say it. . . I guess I will) whiney. Swati avoids that pitfall with flawed but lovable characters and a fun plot full of twists. There are some very funny moments and you'll be rooting for Minal all the way down to the finish line!
Fun and contemporary look at India

From the back cover: Age 13: Shopping for shoes in the Bata men's section. Age 15: Being dumped by four-eyed guy with green braces. Age 26: Acquiring Spineless Jaggu for a boss. And now: Age 29: A debut in HT Matrimonials under 'Miscellaneous'. Meet Minal Sharma. MBA, five foot ten with a hyperactive conscience and a ton of attitude. At twenty-nine Minal is convinced it's time she had it all- a successful career at International Foods, a lifestyle to match and a `totally cool' guy who'll buy her diamonds, bring her flowers and laugh at her jokes. But given the unending record of her life's embarrassments it's not going to be that simple. Especially when her mother's decided to take independent charge of the matrimonial front and the choice she has to make is between her wild and sexy radio jockey neighbour and a brilliant but boring oncologist. And it doesn't help that her new colleague on a make-or-break `Cakes' assignment is a nasty, grudge-bearing kid from her childhood who just might be out to sabotage her career. Set in the quirky corridors of corporate intrigue, Piece of Cake is a delicious romantic comedy with a delightfully complex female protagonist and a plot that sparkles with mischief.
