A great romp by a great author

PAT is a very funny book. It revolves around a hustler who sells titles and peerages which are completely phony to suckers. However, like all bad things that work so good, there is too much of a bad/good thing, and when 'Lord Clive', the hustler goes too far, he has victim after victim chasing him in a madcap, hilarious farce. Especially since one of the people he has defrauded is a Mafia boss. James is a fan of the "There is never too much of a good thing" and he practices it clearly here. There is some great writing and comic timing in here. It's really a comic sex farce much like a really funny play like "A Flea in His Ear" is. Imagine Donald Westlake with a more devious and sexier edge and you'll get a good feel for just how fun this book can be.
