The authors offer more examples, more figures and many new problems. Two parallel sets of problems end each chapter. Begins by demonstrating the power and limits of thermodynamics with a more systematic treatment of the second law and more focus on entrophy. Section Two deals with the description of molecular properties and spectroscopy utilizing quantum mechanical ideas. Introduced early--eigenvectors, eigenvalues and linear operators appear throughout. Section Three, dealing with statistical mechanics and kinetics, has been completely revised in a clear and interesting way. The final section, Macroscopic and Microscopic Structures, provides two new chapters on macromolecules and surface dynamics, emphasizing the application of SI units and the use of seven base units to represent all physical quantities.

The 'cadillac' of physical chemistry

This is not everyone's physical chemistry text. It is the intellectual's source for both the fundamental and advanced canon of physical chemistry. They must be great teachers, the book is clear, thorough and challenging.

A Great Undergrad P-Chem book

This is a book that I originally got out of the campus library to try to make sense of Atkins' P-CHem book. The Atkin's Book assumes that you already know a lot of basic assumptions which most of my class does not seem to know. Alberty and Silbey do not make these assumptions. THough Atkins goes into more detail, Alberty and SIbley have a nice book to make a solid foundation on.

The Best Physical Chem book on the market

In comparassion to other undergraduate P. Chem books this one stands head and shoulders above the rest. It blends together the calculus and chemistry of the subject in such a way as to completely get the point across. In another surprising turn it also keeps the reader interested in the subject matter, something that other texts on the subject fail to do. The examples and problems are clear to follow and further get the point across. Without this text I would have been lost in my P. Chem class.
