Very good book for a beginner at Texas Hold 'em

First of all, let me say at the beginning that I have not yet finished this book. I've only gotten through the first few chapters. But, in those first few chapters, I've learned skills and strategies to Texas Hold 'em that I didn't even know existed. Phil Hellmuth is very candid in his comments. The book is written like he's sitting, talking to you one on one. It makes the book flow much more easily. I honestly believe that if you had a regular Hold 'em game with some friends each week, after reading this book (assuming no one else had), you'd probably walk out of the room with every cent that was brought to the table. No, it's not an advanced Hold 'em book. But, I don't think it's supposed to be. It was my very first Hold 'em book, and I just couldn't believe how well it improved my game. My first test was in the video game World Series of Poker 2008 where I was losing every single game until this book. After reading the first few chapters and adding some patience to my game, my character walked away the winner for the very first time. Well worth the money if you're into Hold 'em for fun. If you're already very experienced and want to go pro some day, maybe not the best book for you.

I found this book to be very informative. Following the instructions and tips given in the book has actually improved my game and increased my winnings almost immediately. Well worth the inexpensive cost of the book.

The braclets, need i say more!! Ok?

Yes it is true this small version is like play poker like the pros but added with no limit tourament stradegy at the end of the book. Phill has ten braclets like chan and doyle and the most cashes to this date in the world series of poker. He must be doing something right. Guess its time to buy all phills books.

Great beginner's book.

This was the first poker book I bought. Beforehand, I did not know much about odds and playing hands. Phil puts in very simple terms the top 10 hands, how to play them and what to look out for. His "animal" play theory was insightful and helps me read people better. Although this book has a lot of limit hold 'em theory, it is also very helpful for no limit. After loosing over $200 online and in various tournaments, I can finally say I have won a tournament, and I make it to the final table every other time. For the value, this is a great poker book. As a beginner, all of the other books scared me off with their prices, so this was a great deal. I could not be happier.

Great book for poker fans from one of the greats!

I think this was a wonderful buy. I don't buy the larger paperbacks, so this was a totally new book for me. I saw the other reviews, and it clearly states on the back cover that this is Hold'em information from PLAY POKER LIKE PROS. So you are just saving yourself about 8 bucks to buy the cheaper version! Works for me. Phil gives the 10 essential hands to play, helps you learn how to read your opponents and lots more. I was very pleased with this book and I even won my weekly poker game last week after sticking with Phil's Top Ten Hands. I highly recommend this book. Whether you love him or hate him, the man is a darn good poker player!!
