Nostalgia

I grew up in Lancaster and lived there for many years as an adult. The view of Lancaster and surrounding areas through the eyes of this articulate Quaker made a lovely trip down memory lane; even though the book has recollections of the 1800s. I can still hear the "Dutch" accents at the local auctions, remember the unique cuisine, and see the beautiful farmland in my mind's eye. The author writes realistically and doesn't gloss over the silliness of some of the "Dutch" thinking, (i.e. superstitions and distrust of education) unlike some of the overly romantic writing about the "Dutch" and Amish being written today.
