Book Overview

"The Pastor's Manual" is a comprehensive and practical handbook designed to assist ministers in the diverse duties of Christian leadership and service. Compiled by J.R. Hobbs, this classic resource provides a structured guide for conducting various religious ceremonies, including weddings, funerals, and the ordinance of baptism. Beyond its liturgical utility, the work serves as a foundational reference for church administration and parliamentary procedure, ensuring that the business of the church is handled with both spiritual grace and organizational order.

This volume is particularly valued for its concise yet thorough approach to pastoral care. It offers helpful scripts for scriptural readings, suggestions for hospital visitations, and outlines for significant congregational milestones. By focusing on the spiritual and logistical needs of the clergy, "The Pastor's Manual" remains a timeless tool for those dedicated to the ministry. Its clear organization and practical advice make it an invaluable companion for both newly ordained ministers and seasoned pastors looking for a reliable, portable reference to guide them through their daily walk of service and the administration of sacred rites.

Catchy title but this is NOT a Manual for Pastors.

Note: this is the only verified purchase review. If you are looking for guidance or a manual as to how to be a Pastor - this is not that. First half of the book deals w/ opinions about funerals, The second half deals with a number of topics as a quick overview. This is not a Manuel, rather more of a few examples of things to say at a funeral or baptism and an editorial overview.

Good Manual for Last Minute Calls...

While not a thoroughly in-depth book, this little manual may be able to help any pastor, deacon, bishop, or common Christian with a sermon on many particular topics when the speaker does not know how or where to start. It is a good, inexpensive manual to have on your shelf that may give you some excellent ideas in expounding upon God's Word.

Very Nice, very well put together.

This is a great help for pastors. It is also a very nice looking and well made book that can be used during special cerimonies and services. Well worth the price.

J. R. Hobbs Pastors Manual

This is an excellent book for new pastors. I ordered it as a gift for a young female relative on the occasion of her ordination.

Very general, broad-range book for pastors or ministers

This volume is intended primarily for new Christian ministers or pastors. It tries to cover a lot of ground in a single book, and I think it would have been better to cover some topics separately. Funerals, weddings, and church business are all briefly covered, but each of these topics could fill an entire book. In my opinion, the most useful portion is the section on Funerals, which is rarely covered elsewhere. Table of Contents: Notes on Conducting a Funeral Funeral Service for General Purposes Funeral Service for a Child Funeral Service for a Young Man Funeral Service for a Young Woman Funeral Service for a Man or Woman in Middle Life Funeral Service for Aged Man Funeral Service for Aged Woman or Mother Funeral Service for Non-Christian Episcopal Funeral Service (abbreviated) Texts for Funeral Addresses Poetry Weddings Notes on Ministerial Conduct at Weddings Marriage Ceremonies Marriage Ceremony by Author Marriage Ceremony (from Ala.
