PARIS by Edward Rutherfurd
I have read and enjoyed one other book, ‘New York’, by Rutherford so I had high expectations for this one. I’m happy to say I wasn’t disappointed.
What I love most about Rutherfurd’s books are the variety of characters and the way they are incorporated into historical events. The characters are fully developed, memorable, and have interesting backstories. They’re not often related to each other, but they’re somehow on the periphery of the next set of characters as the timeline progresses. It’s all done quite seamlessly. It’s like being an observer as the history of Paris (and France, generally), and its residents’ lives play out before you.
That said, I do wish this was written in chronological order, but I understand why it wasn’t. Regardless, it’s still an enjoyable read that’s worth your time especially if you love Paris (France), and historical fiction.

Rampaging through epochs and sharp personal textures, sending you to look things up, whoa, did THAT happen?
Never loses the personal reality, love , loyalty, loss and yet more massacres than I foresaw.
