From New York Times bestselling author Mira Grant comes a vision of a decade in the future, where humanity thrives in the absence of sickness and disease. We owe our good health to a humble parasite -- a genetically engineered tapeworm developed by the pioneering SymboGen Corporation. When implanted, the Intestinal Bodyguard worm protects us from illness, boosts our immune system -- even secretes designer drugs. It's been successful beyond the scientists' wildest dreams. Now, years on, almost every human being has a SymboGen tapeworm living within them. But these parasites are getting restless. They want their own lives . . . and will do anything to get them. "A riveting near-future medical thriller that reads like the genetically-engineered love child of Robin Cook and Michael Crichton." --John Joseph Adams More from Mira Grant: Parasitology Parasite Symbiont ChimeraNewsflesh Feed Deadline Blackout FeedbackRise
Parasite is a slow burn but creepy and unsettling.

I dont want to give anyway so im keeping this extremely vague, but I will say that it's a refreshing take on the zombie genre. If you're into body horror and hard syfy this book is for you. That being said, I enjoyed the book for the most part. It tells an interesting story but, the characters aren't as fleshed out as I'd like. However this only the 1st book in the series so, there's plenty of room for them to grow and for us to get to know them.
The plot starts out very slowly and I had to wade through alot of exposition in the beginning and that took some patience. I gave it 4 stars because of that. But, believe me when I say it's worth it.
