A very good coaching session with an experienced collector

First, hat's off to the author for fine-tuning his bookover several editions and many years, to finally write upa definitive version, covering spreadsheets, software (themodern tools) with all the rest, and keeping it uptodate.I definitely reaped rewards from this book, more thanHarold S. Long's book on collections called HOW TO COLLECTILLEGAL DEBTS, which although very useful, funny, realisticand psychologically, very interesting and stimulating, exceeded the bounds of acceptable, employable behavior. The advantage of Paulsen's approach, is you're employableas a professional by other companies, whereas Harold S. Long'stechniques would require you to open up your own business, with a great deal of muscle-man, karate or boxing trainingto do with the collection activities. Most will prefer thePaulsen approach ...it's easier, and it keeps you outof trouble.Regarding the book itself, PAID IN FULL, its clearly writtenby someone who is completely, entirely and fully immersedin collections. Or in other words, collecting is Mr Paulsen'sUniverse, written by someone who loves that work, and feelscomfortable and financially rewarded for doing good collectingwork. That said, it can be summarized as a gigantic coaching session,by an experienced mentor, who is extreme credible, and is willingto share with others, his own personal techniques, psychologicalapproach, attitudes and professional behavior with the readers. Thatcertainly deserves a round of applause, as rarely do star performersshare their secrets with other people. However, I gave this book a 4/5 for the reason that it didn'tstrike me as a "PHENOMENAL" book about collection. Just a verygood, or excellent coaching session one. Perhaps the approachby the author was too relaxed about it ...myself, I've readbooks that are urgent in their coaching or training tone, verymotivating, upbeat and ambitious. In this book, the author isself-conscious about showing too much enthusiasm about the profession,or perhaps, disliked it or couldn't bear to practice is after manyyears (my guess) and this would explain why the author is not trainingpeople about collecting, contrasting with actually working as a collector.I feel trainers often become slightly out of touch with reality,in the sense that they become too comfortable and relaxed about the pressures, performance stresses and keeping-your-job fears that actual professionals feel when they're doing their job. Indeed,it's likely a lot of pro's in the field get terminated from collectionsfrom lack of performance, or lose their desire to be collectors,or get paid very poorly to do that work. None of the negatives orpositives or even, the mention of salaries, career perspectives andsimilar pressures are even referred to in Mr Paulsen's book, unlikemany other books that actually understand and acknowledge thosepressures, those questions and offer tips to address those problems. Thisdowngrades my rating of 5 to only a 4 for Paulsen's book. All in all, worth every penny ...

Fun, practical book

This book takes a humourous ride in collecting debts. His suggestions are practical and will work. It's loaded with tips and is good for both the newcomer and experienced pro. A very good book.

Helpful and Informative

Paid In Full is an informative book where I was able to read and understand clearly what the author was stating. It offered valuable tips and suggestions on how to go about calling non-paying customers and excellent collection letters. I recommend this book to anyone and everyone who has collection problems. I originally purchased 'How to Collect Debts' which was a total waste of time and money. You'll have none of these problems with this book - it's worth the investment!
