THE CLASSIC CHILDBIRTH HANDBOOK--COMPLETELY REVISED AND UPDATED IN FULL COLOR

A Doody's Core Title for 2017!

Edition after acclaimed edition, Oxorn-Foote Human Labor & Birth has provided the most comprehensive, yet accessible overview of obstetrics available. Going beyond scientific theory and a technological orientation, this landmark guide is written for the real world of clinical practice, as it expertly examines all mechanisms of human labor and delivery.

The book begins with a valuable review of clinical anatomy, then thoroughly examines the three stages of labor, with a focus on proper management and birthing techniques. Specific guidance on the full spectrum of complications and delivery situations, including Cesareansection, breech presentation, transverse lie, umbilical cord issues, dystocia, and more are also presented. A final section addresses such critical concerns as preterm labor, antepartum hemorrhage, and maternal and fetal complications in labor.

Wonderful!

This is a great book! It covers many areas of labor and birth, including breech. I've heard a lot of good about this book from those in obstetrics, and I'm looking forward to using it. I've already read the first 5 chapters. I would certainly recommend it. Do you know Jesus Christ as your Savior? Trust Him today for eternal life! But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

Human Labor and Birth

As one who has been studying the science of midwifery for three years, I can say that I have loved this book! There are many reasons for this love: 1) HL & B covers nearly every conceivable obstetrical topic succinctly yet thoroughly. If you want the low-down on anything from umbilical cords to breech delivery to sacculation of the uterus, this is the book to go to! You won't find any extraneous content: this is a textbook through and through - it cuts to the chase!2) I appreciated the author's comprehensive coverage of medical options. A lot of textbooks (esp. nursing texts) are of the mentality "when this happens, this is what you do" whereas this book presents all options for treatment management (even though you might probably end up doing what the nursing text says!), as well as prognosis info. 3) The illustrations (hand-drawn) are immensely helpful and quite plentiful. 4) HL & B is compact (1.5" x 6" x 9"), so when wanting to study on the go, this was the definite choice. The only drawback to this book is that it is a paperback (I am unaware if it is available in hardcover). Notwithstanding, I would highly recommend this book to anyone studying obstetrics at any level.
