A satisfying entry into this series

Fargo isn't much for the sport of cockfighting, but when a brawl breaks out at a match, he rescues a badly beaten young boy from the fray. But the youth is a young girl in disguise. No sooner does Fargo help her out than a posse charges after them, gunning for his blood. And when the Trailsman figures out who set him up for a fall, the feathers are really going to fly... The book starts with a very visual cock fight which leads to Fargo getting involved in a desperate race to clear his name as he finds himself accused of bank robbery. The who set him up as the fall guy and the why form the major plot line of this intriguing tale. If this isn't enough of a problem Fargo soon begins to suspect that the girl he's saved is not being completely truthful as to who she is and what role she's playing in this deadly game. Although the author throws in a few twists and the story rapidly progresses, I felt he revealed to the reader the true identity of one of the characters far to soon, would have had more impact if we'd found out at the same time as Fargo and the girl. Still this was a very readable entry into the Trailsman series.
