So you wanna be old-school?

This book covers operating system services, file systems, CPU scheduling, memory management, virtual memory, disk and drum scheduling, deadlocks, concurrent processes, concurrent programming, protection, design principles, distributed systems, and a "historical perspective" on OS design--which is a fun read, since the book was published in 1982. It has a picture with a bunch of dinosaurs on the cover (irony intended?)--with names like TSS/360, OS/360, Scope, OS/MUS, VMS, CP/M, and, of course, Unix.

The best read on Operating Systems

While doing my graduation, for the Operating Systems (OS) topics, this was by far the best learning book and then a reference. It covers a variety of topics including Memory management, task management and scheduling techniques(quite detailed). The language is very easy going and the diagrams help a lot too.Would like to get a copy now.
