If you are very lucky, once in your life you will find a book as well written as this. It will stay with you and inspire you. It is a loving memoir thinly disguised as a novel that I read over 40 years ago.

Great Book

I read this book over 20 years ago and I plan on getting it again. This was just one of those books when you read it, you don't want to forget who wrote it or the name. I think this is probably Clair Huffaker's best book.

Perfect Story

This book is a perfect story. It is a romance, but a true biographical one that avoids the pitfalls of less realistic romances, and sticks to the heart of love--enduring one horrible thing after another (depression, health issues, death, war), and always relying on each other to muddle through. The characters are warm, strong, and very human. The respect with which the couple treats each other is an inspiration and gentle lesson to each of us. Since this book is hard to find I found two copies . . . so I would be willing to lend one.

I read this book for the first time when I was a junior in highschool back in 1978. I absolutely adored the story and read it more than once. Unfortunately I lent it to a friend and never saw it again until now.

This is the best book in the whole world!

This is the most moving, wet-eyed, sweet, classic romance in the world! It is a story of courage and love and hard work all put together. Clair is such a dedicated, loving, determined, awesome, sweet guy. And Orlean is perfect for him. She's sweet, soft, gentle, loyal, and loving girl. They are the most perfect couple, that stick together through everything. Clair is my idea of a perfect guy. He works so hard for her, during the Great Depression. He would do anything for her. You absolutely have to read this book!!!
