On Wings of Faith

I had actually read this book before and wanted my own copy. I have thought about things in this book many times since reading it.

Apostle Ezra Taft Benson restores the LDS missionary system in war torn Europe after World War II

This book is a moving account of Apostle Ezra Taft Benson's mission to restore order to the LDS Church's missionary system and membership in war torn Europe after World War II. It is written by Frederick W Babbel who accompanied him on this mission. The book accounts many occasions when Apostle Benson was able to go from country to country visiting the saints, preaching the gospel and bringing Church welfare supplies from the United States when all Europe said it was impossible. Yet, the Spirit prompted him, he took an unlikely course, and miraculously appeared in his destination. I enjoyed the book and saw myself in Europe through the eyes of the author.

On Wings of Faith review

I love this book. I got it for a friend after her Father died. I love the Faith building stories of the European Latter-day Saints after WWII. It is very humbling and helps you to appreciate an orange or a needle or whatever! This particular book is paper back. My own personal copy is old and is hard cover, so I hope the paper back lasts for my friend. Thanks

Most Uplifting ....

I learned of this book many years ago. Someone vaguely remembered the title. Next I learn German in the same class as Fred Babbels' daughter and buy the book from her. While working in Germany, I become acquainted with a little old lady living in Cologne. At that time her age was equal to the number of steps up to her apartment. (I think 84; but its been many years). She takes me into her attic and shows where the incendiary bombs burned during WWII. Later she relates to me how she was trapped behind the lines in 1944. She describes her fear when she sees a vehicle approaching the village. They've been plundered by the Russians, men shot in disbelief at not possessing(drinking) alcohol or smoking cigarettes; chickens sequestered (live) in wells to protect them from troop theft.I mentioned to the woman that I heard this before - she asks where and I tell her of the book. She doesn't speak/read English; but is most intrigued. She relays the information to her daughter in California. Mormon or not; this is an uplifting tale of people returning from chaos which had totally changed their lives. These were 2 civilian men in a nation which had no idea what would happen next.
