This is the story and memories of the James Spencer and Nancy Hastletine Ogle family. They were my great grandparents, and my great aunts and uncles. It is not a dry history book, but rather a collection of memories, with some facts (such as the family tree) thrown in. It is a romp down memory lane for me, and intended as an introduction to the younger, and not yet born, generations to get to know their ancestors as living, breathing people with interesting stories to be told. Reading between the lines, you will learn that life decades ago could be harsh. Many of the people in this book lost children, several before the age of three. It seemed to be the norm. Most of the women, our aunts, were married an average of three times, losing their husbands early in life. We take so much for granted. Maybe these true tales will help us realize how fortunate we are.
