Odd Things and Then Some

By Kate Gawi

You quit your soul-crushing job to follow a cryptic ad to a Fifth Avenue penthouse. Your interviewer looks like she belongs in 1901, and the butler, the size of a fifth grader, is wearing white cotton gloves. Do you take the job?

Molly Meager, a data analyst as plain as a Graham cracker, has a gift: the ability to go through life unnoticed.

Buried in spreadsheets during the day and lost in her beloved paperbacks at night, only the mallards in Central Park pay her attention. But when she finds herself recruited to a mysterious society, older than time itself, someone notices her - the infuriatingly irresistible agent Storm.

Soon enough, Molly finds herself in a sparkling world of oddities that outshine the stories in her romance novels, where a legendary book with devastating powers may be more than just a rumour.

With the help of ancient teachings, safeguarded by the Society of the Salient and Spectacular, Molly is taken on a journey, trying to find the mysterious book. As she uncovers more about the Society's ways, she discovers more about herself. While some books contain secrets, some people are the secret.

Odd Things and Then Some is described as a sophisticated urban fantasy where magic lurks beneath the glamour of modern high society.
