Although it was first settled in the 1830s, Oak Park did not become an independent municipality until it split from Cicero Township in 1902. No longer a rustic small town, the village soon became a population magnet, attracting ever-larger numbers of prosperous, progressive people to settle in what many soon referred to as "the finest of the streetcar suburbs."

Lots of Old Photos of Oak Park, IL

Lots of really old postcard photos, many of things that are long gone. Includes the original high school at Lake Street and East Avenue, the beautiful original entrance to the present high school, the Scoville Center Oak Park Public Library which is gone now, and other memorable buildings which are also gone or modified beyond recognition including the grade schools. 128 pages of Oak Park memories, all in glorious black & white.

Oak Park (Postcard History)

Looking at these post cards was like taking a walk around Oak Park. I was especially delighted when I saw a photo of a house that I had been in many times as a child. I plan to give this wonderful book as a gift to fellow Oak Parkers.
