Joe's parents have mysteriously disappeared and his well-meaning neighbour has put Joe in the care of some dreadful relatives, Aunt Pallagra and Uncle Herbert. Joe discovers giant footsteps in the snow, leading to Aunt Pallagra's garage, where Mabo, a female yeti, is hiding. At first Joe is convinced that she is responsible for his parent's disappearance, but soon becomes aware that all his troubles began when the strange Mr. Lockjaw moved in nearby. Lockjaw is a ruthless collector of live animals. His menagerie includes tigers, tarantulas, cobras and his most prized acquisition, a family of talking yetis. It is from Lockjaw's house that Mabo has escaped, and where Joe's parents are still held captive. With the help of a new friend Kenny, Kenny's dad and his lorry, they eventually manage to free all the animals and Joe's parents. With the yeti family safely in Errol's lorry, Joe's family and Kenny head for Scotland and Loch Ness, to find a new home for the yetis. Unfortunately, the evil Lockjaw follows them and set his armed minders to recapture Mabo and her family. All seems lost, the yetis are prepared to die rather than be taken captive. Suddenly the Loch Ness monster arises from the deep and gobbles up Lockjaw and his two henchman Blister and Thugsby, leaving Mabo and her family to settle into their new home in the Scottish highlands.
