Best Book on Addiction Ever

This is the best book on addiction I have ever read, and I've read a lot. Really explains how different substances interact with the brain and how the brain responds to re-achieve homeostasis (and thus pushes the user to use more and more substance}. It is also a deeply humane book that places the context of drug and alcohol use not in the brain but in the social fabric at large. I work with addicts as a psych nurse, and I plan to place a copy of this in our library. I will also be getting it for several of my friends who are working on sobriety. An engaging, intelligent read on an important topic. Highly recommend!
