Book Overview

Natural Goat Care
Practical Holistic Strategies for Raising Healthy, Productive Goats Naturally

Goats are intelligent, resilient animals, but they thrive best under thoughtful management that works with their natural instincts and biology.

In Natural Goat Care, goat owners will discover practical, experience-based approaches to improving herd health through natural goat care, holistic livestock management, and preventative health practices. Rather than relying solely on interventions after problems arise, this guide focuses on creating the conditions that allow goats to remain healthy, productive, and resilient throughout every stage of life.

From nutrition and housing to parasite control, kidding, and common health concerns, this book provides practical solutions for raising dairy goats, meat goats, fiber goats, and backyard companions. Readers will learn how to recognize early signs of illness, support immune function naturally, and implement management practices that reduce stress and improve overall herd performance.

Whether you're just starting your first homestead herd or have years of goat-keeping experience, Natural Goat Care offers trusted guidance rooted in observation, common sense, and a deep respect for the unique nature of goats.

For anyone seeking healthier animals, fewer health challenges, and greater confidence in caring for their herd, this book is an essential addition to the barn library.

Best book I have ever read so far

I can not say enough about this book. I believe every goat owner should read this book. I try to go all natural with my goats and this book has been the only book out there so far that I have found that gives you basic solid information to follow that you can actually use. You also do not have to go and buy expensive ingredients or chemicals to care for your goats which I highly recommend. This book covers almost every area that you can think of. If you are a serious goat owner who only wants the best for your goats then I would highly recommend it. I do wish they would have put a way to contact the writer of the book. I have had questions about feed and I can not find the answers because there is no way to get a hold of her. Other than that this it is an excellent book and one I would never be without out.

changed my mind about this book

At first blush, this book appeared to be a collection of anecdotes and unproven assertions. After a year of keeping goats, this book has become my go-to source for information. It's far more useful than the more conventional goat care books which seem to always point the troubled goat keeper to a vet, and encourages them to rely solely on the recommendations of feed mills who they claim produce "complete feeds". I don't have access to a vet who's willing to treat goats. I've dealt with more than a few folks who fed "complete feeds" and still managed to lose goats to urinary calculi, and have does who's bellies have never returned to normal shape even after only one freshening. Two of my girls just kidded a week ago and already the muscles of their bellies have returned to a normal healthy shape. The kiddings were unbelievably easy, and obviously fertility is good. All of my goats are shiny, active and healthy. The males haven't shown a hint of urinary trouble. This book is a must have.

Excellent Goat Husbandry book

Well written and her recommendations work well! I would not do without this book. I had loaned mine out several years ago and it was not returned so I bought another one as I missed having it for a reference.

Goat Care book very helpful

This book is awesome. I just started out with dairy goats and I find this book very helpful, especially since so many problems can be avoided or solved naturally. I highly recommend this book to anyone raising goats.
