A beautiful bore...

I think the first thing that drew me to `Naptime for Thaddeus' was the idea that maybe, just maybe, it would help me convince my daughter it was okay to take one. After flipping through it I was intrigued by the beautiful illustrations. So, without really reading the book, I decided to purchase it. First of all, it hasn't helped much in the nap department. When my kid doesn't want to sleep no amount of reasoning on the wonder of dreams is going to change her mind. But, I should have known that, right? I won't say that this is a great book. My daughter likes it, but she doesn't ask me to read it to her. In fact, I think I've ever seen her eyes roving the room while I've read it to her. The book is rather simple, and some of the dreams that Thaddeus has are somewhat silly (and not in the `hehe, children's book silly' but in the `he should have taken more time to think this out' silly). I think that is my main complaint about the book. It just seems kind of lazy. I mean, we're talking about DREAMS here...he could have gone all out, but instead he resorts to picking flowers with a machine and throwing mud (or growing a mustache), and while those are all things that maybe a kid thinks about, it just isn't out there enough for me. Like I said, we're talking about DREAMS here! That said, I'm still giving this a B- for the sole reason that the illustrations are superb. The thing that draws me to a children's book initially is the artwork. I love artistic visions, and some artists really take their time to create something special. The pictures provided are stunning and really elevate the book for me. I'd rather just look at the pictures than actually read the book. Anyways, your kids may really like this, and maybe as my daughter gets older she'll like it, but for me this was kind of a missed opportunity. If the illustrations weren't so stellar I'd have given this a C.

The kids love this book !

My three year old and his friends really enjoy Naptime for Thaddeus, the colorful illustrations capture their attention. It's a fave ! Look forward to more of Adam Nicely's books. Melanie Dallas, Texas
