An excellent source of Vitamin D information

Naked at Noon by nutritionist Krispin Sullivan is an excellent book that discusses the possibilities of getting sufficient Vitamin D from sun exposure. It is full of information that even health professionals rarely know about what parts of the country provide enough sunlight in which seasons, even if you are able to sunbathe (without sunscreen!) at noon. I did not give it five stars only because there has been quite a bit of research since it was first published, although it was cutting edge at the time. Krispin was one of the first I found who advocated the importance of Vitamin D, even in the sunscreen happy years of the 90s. We know even more about the importance of Vitamin D today in its effects reducing cancer, diabetes and mortality from all causes. Levels of 25,000 iu approach the dosage that a light skinned person would get in two hours near the equator where we evolved and it is probably not possible to get this without supplementation with D3. There is also new controversy about the interaction of Vitamins A and D and some fear that cod liver oil may block the effects of Vitamin D (so that fish oil is instead recommended as a source of DHA and EPA- toxic Vitamin A levels would be absorbed if it were the primary source of sufficient Vitamin D.) You can find most of her information on Vitamin D, (as well as Omega 3s and minerals) at http://www.krispin.com/ since the book is out of print.
