After his US Navy service, Eddie Walsh worked as a manager in the aerospace industry. A year after he retired, he received a phone call from one of his subordinates in that final job. Amazing Stace. Her voice was slurred. Eddie asked, "Stace, are you drunk?" She hung up. It turned out, Stace had just OD'ed on sleeping pills. Did she call seeking help? Or to say goodbye? He'd failed her with his turn-off question.

Eddie was a coffee drinker and had collected mugs with the emblems of all the Navy units he'd served in as well as the civilian programs. The mugs were in a box in the basement, and in looking for the Stacey mug, he came across others which resurrected memories of other people he'd let down.
