A leading orthopedic surgeon and a top sports chiropractor team up to offer a groundbreaking new approach to remaining injury-free and recovering from injury faster. Muscle injuries are not just for sports superstars anymore. Back, shoulder, hip, and knee problems bedevil more and more people than ever before. Muscle Medicine provides a way to prevent such injuries from happening and to treat them when they do without drugs or surgery. The product of a collaborative effort between two widely recognized authorities on sports injuries, Muscle Medicine relies on cutting-edge medical and therapeutic expertise to deliver what many doctors cannot: explanations of how to maintain good muscle health, how to treat common muscle injuries, such as "Tennis Elbow" and "Cell Phone Neck," and how to determine when joint surgery is and is not necessary for some common orthopedic problems. Featuring more than 100 illustrations that show the basics of muscle mechanics, along with various stretching, strengthening, and self-treatment exercises, Muscle Medicine will help readers enjoy pain-free, active lives no matter what their age or activity level.
I purchased this book from the recommendation of Hemmer on the Fox news channel. After reading this book, I became aware of the pain I was experiencing on my foot. That encouraged me see a podiatrist which immediately scheduled me to have heel spur removal surgery a couple of days later on both foot. As soon as I heal from the surgery, I will perform the stretches recommended in the book. The book has very good illustrations and clear and simple information and examples of various muscle and ligament pain conditions. Fast return and saved money compared to the price at Barns and Noble.

As a physical therapist, I was initially interested in reading the book to learn more about the F.A.S.T. treatments, but since reading the book I thought it was thorough and to the point regarding health and injury. I would recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn more about fitness/health no matter what their level of education.

This collaboration between a chiropractor and orthopedic surgeon is actually a self-help program in a book. Their merged expertise provides the layman with a holistic philosophy of the workings of the musculoskeletal system as well as a strategy for treatment. Through stretching and strengthening exercises, this manual offers a hands-on approach to treating a plethora of injuries by its focus on prevention and healing independent of drugs or surgery The application of pressure and performance of specific movements are depicted by user-friendly, step-by-step illustrations and photographs that concentrate on the basic mechanics of the human body. One section is dedicated to troubleshooting certain ailments and negotiating "hot spots." Although especially helpful to those who engage in sports or strenuous actions, //Muscle Medicine// does not restrict itself to age, body type or activity level and, as such, could be just as beneficial to someone who spends much time sitting at a computer. This book would make an excellent addition to anyone's home library.

I'm a sporadic runner and basketball player and my muscles are always getting sore and sprained. This is the first book that explains to me why this happens and how to stop it. I love how crisply and clearly this really technical information is presented. Great illustrations and medical perspectives, in layman's language. Good nutrition tips, too. Really well done, and I think anyone who is into physical activity should grab a copy of this excellent book.
Finally, an answer to my running injuries

I have been a long distant runner for over 30 years. I have run over 30 marathons, suffering many overuse injuries over the years. I have been to orthopedists, chiropractors, massage theerapists and accupuncturists over the years for an assortment of injuries. After reading "Muscle Medicine" I have a new clarity on the cause of many of my past problems. Most importantly, I now have a strategy for self treatment which should resolve my problems. As a senior runner, this material is critical! And, the best part are the sections on prevention. I am now in control! I feel sorry for the medical practionioners in New Jersey- no more business!! I thank the author for sharing this information. For athletes everywhere, this is long overdue!!! Dr Marvin Lagstein (very amateur but determined athlete)
