terrific mountain climbing murder mystery

Following the Murder on Mt. Everest fiasco, renowned mountain climber Scott Devlon still remains mentally shook though physically somewhat recovered. However, he knows the criticality of getting back to work so he agrees to observe a European Union conference in Kislovodsk in Southern Russia near the continent's highest elevation the twin peaks of Mt. Elbrus to discuss refugees caused by the dispute with Georgia. However, the conference takes an ugly spin when the First Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Ivanov Livachev is murdered on Elbrus. Russian security chief at the conference immediately suspects Devlon who was with the victim. Everyone else, including the not so camouflaged American spies, supports the assertion. With Natasha and an international crew of strange bedfellows, Scott flees across the Caucasus in Chechnya with the Russians in pursuit as he seeks to expedite himself from what is an iron clad case against him. The latest Summit Murder Mystery is a terrific tale as readers obtain a sense of elevated geography for instance how one reaches the summit of Elbrus inside a whodunit with espionage and international geopolitical issues enhancing the thriller. Scott is at his best rushing across vividly described war ravaged Chechnya as he has not fully recovered form the ordeal at the top of the world, but now needs to extract himself from a new dangerous situation in which he unsure who to trust. This Summit Mystery is full of thrills and chills until the end.

After Murder On Everest I looked forward to Murder On Elbrus and was certainly not disappointed. This book, the third in the Summit Murder Mystery Series, takes place on Elbrus, the highest peak in Europe. This mountain is not as high as Everest but certainly the story of the climb is just as exciting as Murder on Everest was. The summit is 18,510 feet, which is the same elevation as the Base Camp at Everest and a bit easier to get to. There is a bus that brings the climbers to the base of the mountain, and then a chair lift is used to bring them most of the way up the mountain. The chair carries passengers to 12,000 feet and from there you climb the 6500 feet to the summit. Or, you can catch a ride in a snow cat, which is a Russian tractor, and keep out of the horrid cold for another 3000 feet and then only have to climb about 3500 feet to reach the summit. Unfortunately, this is not as easy as it sounds, as many people have died on the mountain because it looks a lot easier than it is and novice climbers did not wear the proper clothes and shoes and ended up getting into a whole lot of trouble. But enough of climbing instructions!! Having just recovered from a disaster on Mt. Everest, Scott Devlon, a famous mountain climber, has come to southern Russia to observe a European Union sponsored conference. This conference turns very serious when the Prime Minister of Russia is murdered on the mountain. Scott, of course, is in trouble again. Everyone always seems to think that he had something to do with the killing, and Scott, with characters from the last book, heads out across Russia followed closely by the Russian Army. Along the way, there are many clandestine moments where things are revealed to Scott and he doesn't know who's with him and who's against him, which makes for an interesting story. This new Summit Mystery is just as exciting as the previous book and full of thrills and chills until the end. Watch for the next one - Murder on Mt. McKinley - which will be published next year. I know I will be waiting impatiently for it as it is in Alaska and makes a beautiful picture. I sure wouldn't want to scale it but I certainly admire the people who do. Mary C. Good Murder Mystery ... Really Enjoyable Read!

I love a good whodunit. After reading Murder on Everest, I was really looking forward to Murder on Elbrus. And it delivers! Scott Devlon finds himself again in the middle of a murder scene ... this time in Russia. Russia is an interesting place. Some of my favorite characters from Murder on Everest join Scott for this fast-paced adventure. It's not obvious who murders the Prime Minister of Russia or how or why. The plot and the action kept me reading all the way to the end. Of course I'm now ready for the next book in the Series.

Summit Murder Mystery Series

Another great read from Irion and Watkins! Action packed adventure, this time to Elbrus. Scott Devlon is a man that finds adventure, intrigue, snipers, and of course Tarja whether he intends to or not. After Murder on Everest, I couldn't wait to get my hands on Murder on Elbrus, I was not disappointed! If you are in to murder mysteries and mountaineering adventures and you haven't read this series, you should check it out!
