Munich '72 - Once, Everything Changed: Contemporary History - Terrorism - Counterterrorism

After the devastating terrorist attack at the 1972 Munich Summer Olympics, carried out by the Palestinian terrorist organization Black September, the Federal Republic of Germany decided to establish a dedicated counterterrorism unit: GSG 9.
As a close-combat instructor, I became one of the first members of this newly formed unit. Meanwhile, the conflict in the Middle East continued to escalate, with the covert operations of Israeli special forces attracting worldwide attention.
In April 1973, during the secret Operation Spring of Youth, Israeli special forces infiltrated West Beirut. No one could have foreseen the consequences of that mission. During the operation, an Israeli elite soldier-the son of the unit's commanding officer-was captured by the PLO. An official rescue mission was politically out of the question.
At the time, I had no idea that these events would soon draw me into the conflict myself.
