Fun read with a real, down home gutsy heroine

I liked this book and will recommend it to friends. My copy is currently sitting in my husband's "to read" stack. We joke that I am his personal reader and that he only reads the cream of the crop because of it! Abby is a fun heroine. She does funny things, she does dumb things. Kind of like all of us. I figured out the end part way through but it was believable and the point of the book was the characters and not necessarily the whodunit. The author has a fairly wicked sense of humor. I loved the way she holds up each of the characters for us to laugh at and with. Abby's roomate's "voice" with her cold was hysterical. Abby's mother's "artistic" endeavors hit a little too close to home! Her assistants at Bloomers show so much promise for the future. Her anorectic sister-in-law is like way too many people I have known. Marco is my kind of guy - the type who would punch a shark to save you. Looking forward to the next book in the series - with hopes that it just gets better and better.

Mum's The Word

This book is great. I originally ordered this because it was written by someone on our area. But I was hooked right away. I zoomed thru all of these books and am anxiously awaiting the next one. My husband is on # 2 already and we have passed on this one to our daughter. These have enough funny stuff to make you laugh but the mystery really keeps you guessing. Loved them all!!

A great new florist amateur sleuth

Abby Knight recently opened her flower shop, Bloomers. She is a law school dropout. She really enjoys her shop. But a low-cost competitor has just come to town and is killing her profits. Then a black SUV rams her vintage Corvette in a hit-and-run. The police don't seem too interested in tracking down the culprit. Especially when a murder is discovered near her shop. Abby meets hunky ex-cop Marco Salvare who now owns the pub down the street. Together they begin to look into who rammed her shop. As things turn dangerous, they begin to wonder whether the person that rammed her car could have been involved in the murder. Plus they have tracked down the possible vehicles that rammed her car and one is owned by a prominent politician's nephew. Abby begins getting threatening phone calls and road rage. Can they find the culprit without Abby being harmed or killed? Abby is such a delightful character. All the other characters that work in her shop, as well as Marco, really add to the story. The author has done a great job of weaving her job as florist and her sleuthing. Abby's family adds a lot of tension in the story, too. It was hard to put this book down once I started reading it. It is such a fun cozy to read. I can't wait to read more. I highly recommend this book.

Fun and Fast-paced!

I have just recently started to read mystery novels, and I have been bored to tears with some of these "cozy" reads people keep talking about. Mum's the Word was a great, cozy read that was exciting. What I enjoyed about this book was how fast-paced it was. When each chapter ended, it left you in suspense. It made you want to keep reading. The characters were fun, and I am sure in the continuation of this series we will get to know them even more. I'm just thankful this book kept on track with the actual "case". Other books I've read would have felt like they needed to put "recipes for floral arrangements" or something superfluous like that. This flower shop mystery series is set in a flower shop, but doesn't take this fact and beat it to death! All in all, I thought it was an excellent read and plan to purchase the next in the series as soon as it is released
