According to the scriptural account, God created multiple cultures. It seems that at one time, everyone on earth spoke the same language, lived in the same area, and were of the same cultural norms. Whether everyone lived in that same place is debatable, however, according to all accounts we can say that a massive number settled in the land known as Shinar (Mesopotamia). They all agreed to make and fire bricks to build themselves a city and a tower that reached toward heaven. Their "attitude" (defiant, proudful) was that this would make themselves "famous" (i.e.: God like). This would also keep them from being scattered across the earth. God saw this as a threat: "One people, one language " To God, this would only be the first step. Mankind would stop at nothing So, God changed each of their speech, so they would not understand each other. God caused them to scatter all over the world.
