An exciting and suspenseful follow-up to the author's previous novel, Five Fatal Shots, this story is loosely based on an actual murder which occurred several years ago in Connecticut. Written by Peter Warren, a retired command staff member of the Connecticut State Police Department and Honor Graduate of the Connecticut State Police Training Academy, the author has written this exciting and captivating story based on his personal knowledge of this shocking murder.
Facing a host of marital and financial problems, Stewardess Helen Church suddenly disappears after confronting her husband over his extramarital affairs. A commercial airline pilot, Richard Church, has been engaged in a series of affairs over the past several years with women involved in the airline industry.
In the weeks following her disappearance, Helen's husband fails to report her missing, claiming that due to their open marriage she was likely visiting relatives or off on a vacation with her girlfriends. It's not until Helen's stepsister, Attorney Pamela Ward, reports her missing that an investigation into Helen's disappearance finally takes place.
Reporting her stepsister's disappearance to retired state trooper Paul Waring, whose skills and talents are well known after several previous murders were finally solved due to Paul's unique skills, Ward tells him that her stepsister has provided her with a sealed envelope. As she shows Paul this envelope, Ward tells him that she was instructed to not open the envelope unless some harm has come to her. As the investigation unfolds, several disturbing details become known. Among them are the reckless spending habits of Richard Church, including his rental of a woodchipper, and the purchase of a large freezer that is now missing. During the investigation, an important witness suddenly disappears after being abducted from an employee parking lot located inside the grounds of the Myrtle Beach Airport. This disappearance becomes even more disturbing after her abandoned vehicle was found heavily damaged after being set on fire.
As investigators execute several search warrants, including one at the Church residence after learning some damaging information from a housekeeper employed by their missing victim and her husband, the investigation takes another suspenseful turn when a Georgetown deputy sheriff comes forth with additional information regarding Richard Church. What this deputy tells Paul shocks the veteran investigator, as well as several others assigned to this investigation.
Well-written, suspenseful, and full of excitement, the author again displays his law enforcement experience and training in this remarkable story. Having interviewed the actual murderer prior to this horrific murder being committed, the story Peter Warren has told will keep readers turning page after page as they immerse themselves in this thrilling story.
