The foolproof computer systems won't allow it. In fact, the systems have been tested over and over again and have always passed.
Always.
These sophisticated computers are utilized by the Gamers who don't question anything. They're too busy controlling the athletes on the field to be bothered with such questions.
The athletes...they have no say. They're insignificant.
On Sundays the fans gather to watch the Gamers. The Gamers are their heroes. They love them as much as they love the glorious action on the field.
Everyone involved is happy. Everyone.
Year after year.
Until one day, when twelve-year-old Zackary Wendell gets a good look at how these foolproof computers actually work. He becomes suspicious. He tells his uncle, because from what he sees, the only ones getting fooled are the adults.
His uncle, by the way, just so happens to be the Commissioner of the Football League.
Then, well... then everything changes.
The big question becomes: Will the changes be permanent?
Well, that depends, because after all, Zackary's just a kid... and what do kids know, right?
