A wild and desperate saga of escape & independence

Set during the rowdy prohibition era, Rod Norville's Moonshine Expenses is the story of Rob McKinley, a thirteen-year-old boy and his friend Katie who lives in a Florida swamp, with half-breed Seminole moonshiners among their neighbors. When they stumble across an illegal moonshine ring, Rob and Katie must flee for their lives and find themselves stealing a train! Moonshine Express is highly recommended and thoroughly entertaining reading as a wild and desperate saga of escape, independence, and the struggle to survive.

moonshine express

Loved the novel! Moonshine Express by Rod Norville is an exciting adventure story. The book depicts very well the language of the area, and expresses the fear and excitement caused by the hoodlums in the moonshine business. Like "Harry Potter". the story would be enjoyable for a wide range of readers. Also, Moonshine Express can make a great movie.

Best Book in Years!!!!

Moonshine Express is a delightful and entertaining story about younglovers in the Old South. Rob and Katie are growing up and discoveringthe world. The world is harsh and tough, and they are young and alive.Their courage and character are tested when people trying to kill them. This is the best book I have read in years.

Moonshine Express

I went to work with four hours of sleep and it was Norville's fault. I was going to read the book until I came to a break in the action and go to bed. I couldn't put it down and finished it after 1 AM. I am normally asleep by 10 PM.I am not sophisticated enough to know what is good art or good literature. I only know what I like and I liked this book. That's why I couldn't put it down until I finished it. The descriptive passages put me right at the scene. In the beginning I saw Rob as the kid in the movie of The Yearling. When he got to school and heard about latrines he started to look like Andy Griffith in No Time For Sergeants. Finally he looked like a composite of guys I grew up with. Congratulations.

Norville's MOONSHINE EXPRESS Shines!

Career changes are iffy moves at best, but Rod Norville has made a wise choice retiring from the Silicon Valley techno-wars to write fiction. His debut work, MOONSHINE EXPRESS, simply shines. I salute Mr. Norville upon the dawn of his great new career.Categorizing this novel is difficult. While it seems to be written as a young adult novel, it is also an extremely satisfying adult read. MOONSHINE EXPRESS tells the story of a thirteen-year-old who is coming of age in Florida in the early sixties. Rob is the novel's protagonist, and Katie is Rob's childhood playmate who is well on her way into evolving into the boy's romantic interest.Rob and Katie are two admirable young people from opposite ends of their town's socio/economic spectrum. Rob's father has become the town drunk since the death of Rob's mother. Katie's father is a doctor who is also the owner of the key business enterprise in their town. Rob and Katie discover a moonshining operation, and the plot steams forward from there.Norville's story accurately captures his setting's time and place. He captures the attitudes of the people of that era. I heard echoes of Faulkner in Norville's view of the South, and I believe this book will be an excellent addition to any school library, young person's bookshelf, or adult's reading list. It is a fabulous work for a first-time author!
