Different cover than expected

Overall the book is in decent shape and from a substance standpoint, this is the same book that I expected. However, when I ordered it, I was expecting the original cover which was displayed in my order. The cover above is what was delivered, but not expected.

Great

Been a big fan of Gary and his 2nd edition AD & D books. Sold some of them after my cousin died, he was the one that got me interested. After he died I lost complete interest and sold some of them. I am back into again and still prefer 2nd ed over 3rd ed. Was glad I was able to find the ones I sold. Came on time in very good condition.

Lots Of Great Memories

This book harkens back to the "good old days" when playing the paper and pencil D & D used to be new and fun. There have been several reincarnations of this manual and I've thumbed through them but they just don't hold a candle to the original, despite the fancier artwork. All the good monsters were there from the Umber Hulks to the Neo Oytughs. I am not at all happy with the direction TSR took after Mr. Gygax was booted out (or left, can't remember which) and one big loss was the original rule manuals. They are now up to version 3 something of the rules but I do not even know what they are because I just play computer games now. All I know about the new rules is that multi-class characters are easier to work with. It was an exciting time, a different era. I still have this manual and will always treasure it. If you can find one, pick it up just to see how things used to be done. Highly recommended.

AHH Nostalgia!

Just surfing and had to say I love this book. I still have the dog-eared copy I bought in 1979 safely tucked away, 7th grade scribbles and all. I saved my paltry allowance for a month to buy this baby. This is one of those books that always has a place in your heart. Not really useful anymore though for the new gamer, go pick up the updated one (MM 3.5 edition version), but for us vets, back in the day it was all about this bad boy.

Classic/Klassic/claSICK

This baby is a legend. I'm talking about the the out of print 1977-1979 editions. You don't have to be a gamer to enjoy this, just put on some Iron Maiden and look at the awesome black and white illustrations.

When tired from imitation always go back to the beginning !

This is a classic book that what written by the D & D and the AD & D founder. This book as well as most of the first edition books are the best AD & D books that were ever written. The following books (second edition and the books that are being publish today) are nice but thay somehow took the charm out of the game - Instead of using your imagination you are being occupied with unnecessary rules and dice rolling. If you can find this book and other first edition books I truely suggest you would. This book plus the Monster Manual volume 2 are giving you more than enough coverage for an AD & D adventure, so you can leave the Monsters Compendium on the shelf.
