In 1978, modern life has yet to reach Nepal, where Cecily Havenshack lives a palatial life with her US diplomat husband. From years of wandering the old bazaar, Cecily has become immersed in... This description may be from another edition of this product.
WOW! This book is SO visual and SO sensual; beautifully written...It is a great vacation book, especially if you are stuck at home, since the pages take you a million miles away. Monsoon Madness would be a great film...Halle Berry: buy this book! You'll be glad, a fine role for you! A diplomat's wife goes animalistic in the wilds of Nepal. I want to know how Cecily turns out at 40!
Sensory and evocative, Monsoon swells with imagery.

Monsoon Madness is a superb novel, written with so much sensory imagery that the reader actually experiences the events and scenery along with the characters. Both hilarious and infuriating, Monsoon Madness is a wonderful, gripping story of survival of both man and nature. Gae Rusk's writing is mesmorizing. I couldn't put it down. FANTASTIC!!
Monsoon Madness: Itchy, Twitchy, Smart

The vivid detail that reveals the inner workings of the unusual characters of _Monsoon Madness_ twisted around my ideas about erotic adventure. These people are different! In what is truly a smart new genre, the "literary bodice-ripper," Rusk gives us the rare sexy, racy, escapist read with a central character who is striking enough in her personality and odd enough in her ethic to earn real-time gossip. Yes, Cecily Havenshack is the lamest woman of the 70s. No feminism here...she is defined by her men, and she comes to her unusual kind of self-realization during her shallow and unsatisfying marriage. Rusk cleverly exploits the human parallel of the brutal seduction and marriage of so many ancient goddesses, those classically feminine archetypes. I love the descriptions of Nepal, and in a way, I feel like I've been invited on a private visit with a knowledgable ex-pat who lives well in a third-world country. The story centers on a monsoon of experience, wet and windy. The rush of action is intense...Cecily lets herself be grabbed and bounced and sloshed through dense and steep icky pathways. She loses her cute shoes and flimsy tea dress to the wilds of an unexpected, cruel trek. Her perfect manicure gets absolutely ruined! Cecily has a special brand of resilience. In so many ways--politically, socially--she angers me, but her adventure is just too damn juicy to set aside. And, I wonder about Beau, Cecily's erotic nemesis: Is he a spy? A government mercenary? His life is right out of an episode of *24*, I'd sure like to know more about this guy (I guess Cecily did, too!). Good book, entertaining story. My hearty recommendation.
Great, fast paced book!!!
