Mixed Tapes and Mixed EMOtions

Hannah Winters has lived her whole silently standing on the sidelines wishing she could have a normal life. The daughter of missionaries who come back to the states so her dad can be a traveling pastor, Hannah hasn't stayed in one place long enough to call home. Her parents finally settled down just in time for her to get prepared for college.
College is Hannah's first chance to see what life is like outside the church bubble. She quickly becomes friends with her roommate, Lilac, who becomes very protective of Hannah's innocence. She also meets Leah, who is determined to bring Hannah up to speed in all music, movies, and tv shows Hannah has missed growing up.
The transition to college life is made easier thanks to a bible study group she finds that meets in her dorm. There she befriends her residential advisor, Jenna. Hannah also meets Peter, a guy who has already graduated college but is just as shy and awkward as her.
Life was starting to come into balance until Hannah went back home to visit her parents. After spending a year praying for a guy named Ryan who has been on the prayer request list, she finally meets the mystery man. He is everything her parents would not approve of, including his dark past. Unable to get any answers from others about Ryan's sketchy past she decides to form her own opinions about Ryan. The two quickly share deep conversations that only makes Hannah's crush on Ryan that much more intense.
As Hannah progresses through her first year of college, she begins to question everything in her life. How her parents raised her, what the Bible says, what was always preached to her. She also learns how Christians played a part in some of the darkest times in history. She is able for the first time to be on the outside looking in thanks to Lilac being a witch and Leah being Jewish. They are able to give her different perspectives and support her as she comes to terms with the reality of life.
Hannah's parents eventually find out about her relationship with Ryan, and they give her an ultimatum, it's either them or Ryan. Hannah knows her parents aren't bluffing, they kicked her aunt out of the family when she was kid and only recently learned it was because her aunt is a lesbian. It turns out that her parents' love isn't unconditional, and she has to make a choice, blood relatives or chosen family.
