Fantastic Teen Romantic Comedy

MISS MATCH is way cute and delightful. In fact, I'd say it's pretty close to a perfect romantic comedy. That's how good it was. I was smiling the whole time I read it; I enjoyed every word. Sixteen-year-old Sasha Finnegan is in desperate need for cash, so she starts up a matchmaking business. And she rocks at it, too, until new kid Derek hires Sasha to help him win a homecoming date with Sasha's cheerleading older sister. Derek's great and all; that's not Sasha's problem. Any girl would be lucky to go out to him, and for the first time, Sasha wants to be that girl. The characters were well-drawn and fun. Sasha is realistic and the sort of girl you'd want as a friend. Her sister is not an airheaded cheerleader. Derek is sweet, but my favorite guy was definitely Kevin. I don't have a crush on him, but seriously, how adorable was he? (No spoilers so read the book if you're curious.) None of the characters seemed overly stereotypical, which was refreshing. The relationships between the characters were wonderful, but romantic and friendly and familial, and MISS MATCH's subplot about Sasha's family adds some depth to the romantic comedy plot. Wendy Toliver's writing is fun, and MISS MATCH's plot is quirky. In places, it's farfetched, but never to the point of seeming improbable. You just go along with the plot because it's just so much fun. For me, reading this was like watching a favorite chick flick, which I can't say about many books. And as a plus, MISS MATCH is pretty clean. Also, I liked the way Wendy Toliver dealt with Sasha's weight. Sasha's not thin (and yay that the girl on the cover doesn't seem like a size zero!), and yeah, she thinks about it sometimes, but it's never annoying. It just seems realistic. If you're looking for a good romantic comedy or just a good fun book in general, I'd strongly recommend MISS MATCH. It's definitely one of my favorites in the genre.

Don't Miss Miss Match

AnnaR Review of Wendy Toliver's MISS MATCH It is always so exciting for me to read anything my BGFF Wendy Toliver writes. Each novel becomes my new favorite. Sasha, Miss Match, needs money for a good reason and she starts a business doing the only thing she has done for as long as she can remember- fixing friends up- being a Match Maker. The Miss Match On Line business is formed. I never give spoiler alerts or tell anything about a novel - preferring to make recommendations and have my friends read and be surprised. I can say this novel is incredibly romantic and uplifting. It is girl empowering and funny and quirky and I love it. It gets better and more wonderful with every read. There are so many funny moments and scenes that become alive with joy and laughter. You will read it in one read, as all my friends have, because it is so engrossing you just won't want to put it down. There is one of the funniest scenes at a restaurant in Wendy's book that just has to be in the movie that should be made. II hope . I can just picture all of the characters. They speak and think like we do and they see the complete humor in almost all situations. Wendy has the ability to paint such incredible pictures with her perfectly crafted words. She has true joy and beauty and love in her life and it comes out with every word - painting a perfect picture for her readers. The ending is so perfect. Romantic and wonderful, but shhh- I won't tell. One of my best friends who is also Wendy's friend had to jump ahead and read the last few pages after asking Wendy a question- she couldn't wait to see what happened. I don't recommend that but ... whatever! Thanks for reading, anna

Matchmaking

Miss Match by Wendy Toliver Sasha Finnegan has always been an excellent matchmaker, but now she has to turn her skills into a real life paying job. Sasha backed her Dad's truck into her elderly neighbors car, and is now responsible for the damages; Miss Match is born. Sasha consults teenagers with crushes on how to get that date with the girl or boy they desire... and she's pretty good too. One Miss Match case though, will make Sasha question if she's doing the right thing, setting up the boy that she's crushing on, with her sister Maddie. Derek Urban is the new guy in school and really wants to take Maddie Finnegan to homecoming, he enlists the help of Miss Match, Sasha, to make his dream a reality. Derek and Sasha become good friends, but neither know what the other thinks about them. Until that night... Miss Match by Wendy Toliver is a cute Young Adult novel that will knock your socks off. It is extremely well written for any age group, not just teens. I loved the realness of the characters, the emotions, and the every day scenarios that real teens face. Ms. Toliver has done an amazing job, yet again! 5 Hearts

Don't Miss...Miss Match!

I really enjoyed MISS MATCH for its breezy style, heart-pounding hotties, and LOL humor. But a day later, I realized what was really staying with me was the warmth and depth that the heroine, Sasha, shared with her best friend, Yasmin. These are two girls who can count on each other through thick and thin, and I believe many teen readers will see themselves and their BFF's in this friendship--or maybe aspire to be more like them.

Miss Match hits the mark!

Miss Match, by Wendy Toliver, is about a teenage girl with a gift for hooking people up--on dates. Due to circumstances beyond her control, Sasha Finnegan puts her entrepreneurial love skills to work for cash. She goes to great lengths for her clients--even so far as to rummage through a fountain in her underwear. In public! Sasha's fun-loving personality and cupid skills win her friends and influence people. However, she cannot seem to find true love herself until she meets Derek Urban...aka "Tex" from (you guessed it) Paris? (Paris, Texas that is). Derek seeks her romantic services when he needs a date to the prom, and Sasha proves she's got good business sense when she goes above and beyond the call of duty for Derek and his date...her gorgeous sister, Maddie. Sasha aims to please, but secretly she's begging please...for attention from Derek, her heart's desire. This teen read will have you wanting to don your own diaper, fill your quiver, and sling that bow and arrow for the greatest cause. Love. Teens will love this book. So will adults. The story is nostalgic and includes current pop culture references with local Utah flair. If you're looking for a good Valentine read, Miss Match is IT!
